ILENE HERRINGTON
Ilene Herrington, 88, of Norwich passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 in Norwich.
Ilene was born on August 28, 1927 in Franklinton, NY the daughter of Wood and Josephine (Geiger) Hallenbeck. She grew up in Franklinton and attended Middleburgh Central School from which she graduated in 1945. She then went on to Albany Business College and graduated in 1947. Her favorite job was being a secretary for Ansco and the best career experience was traveling to Europe. On June 5, 1948 in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church she married Raymond Herrington who passed away April 8, 2014. Ray’s work took them from Albany to Middletown and Binghamton before coming to Norwich in 1965.
Ilene loved gardening and crafts, and her 40 year passion for genealogy she was proud to find a document in which she learned 2 ancestors who served in the American Revolution and 3 ancestors who were passengers on the Mayflower in 1620.
Ilene served on the Board of the Chenango Valley Home, the Auxiliary to Chenango Memorial Hospital Board, was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich, an honorary member of the Norwich Garden Club, a member of the Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, a member at large of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the New York Chapter (Albany Colony) of the Mayflower Society.
Ilene is survived by her brother-in- law David J. Herrington and wife Jane of Ft. Myers, FL along with several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides her husband Raymond, Ilene was predeceased by her sister Golden Palmatier.
A funeral service for Ilene will be held on Saturday, February 6, at 10 AM from the Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Norwich. The Very Rev. Charles Taylor, Rector, will officiate.
Interment will be at a later date in the Middleburgh Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday, February 5, from 4-6 pm.
