LEON R. (LEE) CRANDALL SR
OXFORD – Leon R. (Lee) Crandall Sr., 81, of Oxford passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 4, 2016, at his home.
Lee was born in Edmeston on April 12, 1934 the son of Fred Miller and Cora (Shaw) Crandall. He grew up in the Cuyler & Truxton area and attended the Cuyler School. On March 9, 1953 Lee entered the United States Navy where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge on March 6, 1957. He was very proud to serve his country and during his tour of duty saw many parts of the world and was the recipient of many medals and awards. Over the years Lee had worked on several area farms working mainly with the livestock. He also did carpentry work, worked as a well driller and drove bus for the So. Otselic school district. He and his family made their home in South Otselic for over thirty years and for the past ten years have lived in McDonough.
Lee’s top priorities in life were his family, his canine pets and the farms he worked on. He was a true animal lover especially when it came to horses, dogs and cows. “Real country music” and bluegrass were his favorite kinds of music and a good game of cards was never turned down.
On March 11, 1955 he married Margaret Bodington who survives.
Besides his wife Margaret, he is survived by his children Beth Fallon and husband Thomas of Endicott, Robert Crandall and wife Karen of Georgetown, David Crandall of Oxford, Molly Rounds and husband Ben of Norwich, Amy Crandall of Unadilla, Martha Martyn and husband James of Mich. and Megan Mitchell and husband Wade of McGraw. Also surviving is a brother Floyd Crandall and wife Patricia of Truxton, 23 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter and his brother and sister –in-laws.
Lee was predeceased by his son Leon Crandall Jr and his sisters Faye, Betty and Carol.
A funeral service for Lee wil be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Brad Keator will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 11-1.
