CLARA I. (KAY) HODGE
Clara I. (Kay) Hodge, 83, a longtime resident of Sherburne, passed away Tuesday evening, November 17, 2015, in the Community Memorial Hospital of Hamilton.
Clara was born on April 8, 1933 in Oaksville, NY the daughter of Harry and Charlotte (Wheeler) Hisert. She attended the Sherburne schools from which she graduated in 1952. A person with a warm heart and a natural ability to help people is what led Clara to her employment with the Chenango Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide for over 35 years. During this time she had the opportunity to work with Kip Cooper in his physical therapy practice. Following her “retirement” she needed to be back with people, so, she went to work for the Sherburne-Earlville School in the cafeteria.
Clara’s life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Throughout the years she chaperoned many of her kids school trips, especially those with the winter guard. Over the years she worked many of the band pagent weekends , was a longtime member of the Sherburne Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the Sherburne American Legion Auxiliary.
On July 6, 1952 in Sherburne she married Leslie Hodge who survives. Beside her husband Les, Clara is survived by her children; Elizabeth Bassett and husband Robert (Skip) of Smyrna, Susan Jenkins and husband Mark of Sherburne, Rick Hodge and wife Patty also of Sherburne and her grandchildren; Denise Pusz and husband William, Jennifer Haynes and husband Kenneth, Bridget Edelman and husband Dr. Freddie Edelman, Fred Jenkins and wife Jennifer, Michael Jenkins and companion Nikki, Jason Hodge and wife Delane, Joshua Hodge and wife Jennifer and Justin Hodge. Also surviving are 7 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for Clara will be held on Saturday at Noon from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Sherburne Quarter Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 10-12.
