Barbara J. Lorimer


NORWICH – Barbara J. Lorimer, 83, of Norwich, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Barb was born on February 9, 1932 in Oxford the daughter of Samuel and Mila (Vargason) Ardron. She was a 1949 graduate of the Oxford Academy School and furthered her education by attending the Wilson Memorial School of Nursing from which she graduated in 1952. Her first employment was with Chenango Memorial Hospital for a short period of time before moving to Florida in 1955. Barb returned to Norwich in 1963 and again gained employment with Chenango Memorial Hospital working in the Medical Records Dept. for 3 years . She then worked for Dr. Richard Foster in the Medical Arts Building. Continuing her working career Barb went to work part time for Sears and then Victory Markets before joining NBT in the accounting dept. where she worked for 12 years before retiring at the end of 1984. Following the death of her husband in 1986 she went to work part time for Dr’s. Todd & Warski until 1990.
Barb was a lover of animals and volunteered at the SPCA as a puppy groomer after adopting 2 of her own. She also had a keen interest in lighthouses as a part of our U.S. history and over the years had visited many lighthouses in Maine, Florida and Michigan.
On September 8, 1968 in Plymouth she married Duane G. Lorimer who passed away May 2, 1986.
Barb is survived by her son Christopher Lorimer, step-children Elaine Burton and husband Robert , Richard Lorimer and wife Virginia, Mary Neadom and husband Charles all of Norwich. Also surviving are several step – grandchildren, step – great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and 2 adoptive children Lina Demeree and Darrin Jenkins.
Besides her husband Duane, Barb was predeceased by her brother & sister-in-law Philip & Margaret Ardron and step-children George & Joseph Lorimer.
A private funeral service for Barb will be held at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home with interment in the Pioneer Cemetery of No. Guilford. There will be no calling hours.
