KENNETH JOHNSON
GUILFORD – Kenneth R. Johnson, 82, of Guilford, passed away on Monday, October 26, 2015 after a courageous battle against cancer at the New York State Veterans’ Home in Oxford.
Born May 8, 1933, in Staten Island, NY, Ken was the son of Carl and Julie (Telefsen) Johnson. Ken was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church on Staten Island Ken moved with his family to Guilford at a young age and graduated from Guilford Central Schools in 1950. Not long after graduating, he was asked to serve with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He served there as a gunner on a mortar squad until being honorably discharged in 1955.
Ken was a very hard-working and a committed farmer who owned and operated Johnson Brothers dairy farm in Guilford in partnership with his brother until his retirement. He was quick to lend a helping hand to others with whatever project might need attention, including those of his three siblings. Ken was also an avid deer hunter.
Ken is survived by his brother, Carl Roy Johnson and his wife Elsie, of Guilford, and sister-in-law Marjorie Johnson of Guilford, NY, and several nieces and nephews, including Dr. James Abildness and his wife, Abby, of PA, Linda Thompson and her husband, Larry, of West Sand Lake, NY, Jeffrey Abildness and his wife, Penny, of Apalachin, NY, Susan Watts of Lebanon, PA, Eric Johnson and his wife, Marguerite, of Binghamton, Christine Johnson, of Albany, Sally Johnson and Steve Chunglo, of Lewis, DE, Carol Johnson and Steve Matties, of Rochester, and Larry Johnson and his wife, Danielle, of Guilford. He was predeceased by his siblings, Eleanor Abildness and Stanley Johnson.
Funeral services for Kenny will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Christ Lutheran Church in Norwich. Burial will immediately follow at North Guilford Cemetery.
