Ellen Anderson


NEW BERLIN – Ellen E. (Nelson) Anderson, 92 years old, of New Berlin, passed away Sept. 13, 2009 at Chase Memorial Nursing Home.
Ellen was born June 5, 1917 in Englewood, N.J., the daughter of A. Henry & Betty Nelson. She married Frederick Anderson September 4, 1939 in Craigville.
Ellen assumed roles as a secretary at a Manhattan dress shop and as a homemaker. She and her husband owned and operated Anderson’s Hardware for 18 years in New Berlin. She retired from Preferred Mutual Insurance Company in 1982 where she was also a secretary.
After her retirement, Ellen and her husband traveled seasonally to Brooksville, Fla. until he predeceased her on July 24, 1987.
Among many things, Ellen enjoyed her time traveling to the Caribbean, Alaska and seasonal trips to Florida.  She will be remembered by her family and friends for the love of her grandchildren, her dedication to gardening, canning and knitting.  Ellen was a loving and caring individual who would never say no to anyone.  She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Eastern Star and donated time to Chase Memorial Nursing Home.
Ellen is survived by a son, Ronald Anderson and wife Kathy of Mt. Upton and a daughter Joan (Anderson) and Michael Allen of New Berlin.  Grandchildren:  Lori (Anderson) and Michael Tullos of Mexico, Lisa (Anderson) Yates of North Carolina, Stephen and wife Kim Anderson of North Carolina, Rebekka (Allen) and Michael Berthel of New Berlin, Joseph and Deanna Allen of South New Berlin, Brenna (Anderson ) and James O’Connell of Mt. Upton, Diana Anderson of Arizona and Seth Anderson of Arizona. Great-grandchildren:  Jacob, Levi, Silas and Chloe Tullos of Mexico, Sara Evans and Jacqueline Yates of North Carolina, Alexandra and Dominic Berthel of New Berlin, Kylee O’Connell of Mt. Upton and Great-great granddaughter Scarlett Evans of North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her brothers, Harry and Edwin Nelson and sister Eleanor (Nelson) Ayers.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin.  Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home LP with Reverend Charles Taylor of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church or the Chase Memorial Nursing Home.
