Regina Mccabe Baas

REGINA BAAS
NORWICH – Regina McCabe Baas passed away peacefully on February 11, 2015 in her home in Norwich, New York.  She was with her daughter, Christy, and Christy's husband Michael when she died.
Regina was born Regina Alexandria McCabe on December 26, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York to Regina Schweizer and Joseph Francis McCabe.  She attended public schools, St. Brendan's High School, and St. Joseph's College for Women, all in Brooklyn.  In June, 1944 she was married to Lt. Philip Berend Richard Baas, Jr.  They had three children, Philip (Skip), Gigi and Christy.  They lived in Philadelphia, Arlington, Virginia, and Warwick, Rhode Island before Philip resigned his commission in the United States Navy. They settled in Tenafly, New Jersey where they lived for twenty years.  Regina was an active volunteer with the Tenafly Women's Club and the Englewood Hospital Auxiliary.
In 1974, Regina, or “Darla” as she was known to her children, and Philip moved to Norwich, New York.  Sadly, Philip died in 1977, but Regina chose to stay in Norwich.  She was employed both at Head Start and at McLaughlin's Department Store, where she worked in the fabric department, drawing on her extensive experience as a seamstress.  She enjoyed her membership in the YMCA where she attended aquacise classes with her friends.  She loved fashion and decorating her home, and was an avid fan of antique shops and shows.  She was spirited, beautiful, stylish, and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Regina is survived by her three children, Philip Baas, Gigi Baas and her husband Karol Kucinski, Christy and her husband Michael Cardellichio, and her granddaughter Carolyn Grace Cardellichio.  She will be missed by her family and her many friends.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Regina's wonderful caregivers, to Father Ralph Bove, to Hospice of Chenango County, and to Regina's many friends for their kind thoughts and support during her illness.
A mass of Christian Burial for Regina will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at St. Paul’s Church with Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions in Regina's memory may be made to St. Joseph's College, 245 Clinton Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11205, or to your local Public Broadcasting Station.
Funeral arrangements have be entrusted to the Wilson Funeral Home. To leave the family a message of condolence, please visit the funeral home website at: www.wilsonfh.com.
