Thelma I. Conway Manwarren


NORWICH – Thelma I. Conway Manwarren, 92, of Norwich, passed away Saturday afternoon, October 3, 2015 in the Norwich Rehabilitation Center of Chenango Memorial Hospital where she has made her home for the past several years.
Thelma was born on February 21, 1923 in McDonough the daughter of Alford and Mary (Howe) Gale. She grew up in the McDonough and Oxford area and was a 1941 graduate of the Oxford High School. In her early working career she had worked for the Bargin Center in Norwich but her longest employment was with G.L.A. and its successors for over 25 years.
On July 20, 1944 she married Ernest Conway who passed away June 21, 1971 and on October 21, 1979 she married Emmett (Ike) Manwarren who passed away March 29 ,2011.
Thelma is survived by her sons Ernest Conway Jr. and wife June of Norwich and Allen Conway and wife Patricia of Oneonta. Also surviving are her grandchildren Bruce Conway and wife Angie, Timothy Conway and wife Donna, Lisa Conway, Stephen Conway, Kristin Twomey and husband Chris, Kathy Stein and husband D.J. and Kim Frazier and husband Jay along with her great grandchildren Gage, Caleb, Cody, Kaitlyn, Casey, Cameron, Tyler, Nick, Jackson and Makenna. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husbands Ernest and Ike, Thelma was predeceased by her siblings Hazel Soules, Florence Preston, Clifford Gale and Floyd Gale.
A funeral service for Thelma’s family will be held on Wednesday, October 7, at 11:00 am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. David Spiegel, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11.
