SARITA R. FISKE
MORRIS – Sarita R. Fiske, longtime resident of Morris, died Friday, September 18 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, NY.
Sarita was born to Alfred and Ruth (Esau) Runion on January 9, 1935 in New Berlin. She graduated from New Berlin Central School and went on to study at the State University College at Oneonta, later transferring to Hartwick College where she earned a degree in music education. Sarita taught music and elementary school in Brookfield, Cairo, Fort Plain, South New Berlin and Morris. Later in life, she offered child care at her home in Morris.
Sarita's love of music and children extended to her volunteer work. She was an active member of the Morris United Methodist Church, where she directed the choir for twenty-five years and was a leader in the Sunday School and Vacation Bible School programs. She was also a Head Start volunteer. Sarita was an excellent baker and knitter of mittens and loved sharing the products of these hobbies.
Sarita is survived by her children, Alice L. Fiske of Davenport, Joel R. Fiske and wife Donna of Savona, and April F. Jones and husband Eric of Granby, CT; her grandchildren, Joshua (Rebecca) and Jacob (Karen) Fiske and Sam and Phoebe Jones; four great-granddaughters; a brother, Stephen (Erma) Runion of Norwich, and three sisters, Rev. Gladys Williford of Chestnut Mtn, GA, Margaret Millspaugh of Newburgh, and Valerie Jones of Pekin, IL; a sister-in-law, Diane Runion of Binghamton, and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Rev. Joseph A. Fiske, sister Corinne Shamey of Watertown and brother John Runion of Binghamton.
Sarita's family is grateful to the many friends and neighbors who showed her great love and care, especially the congregation of the Morris United Methodist Church and the staff on the Mountainview unit at Robinson Terrace.
A service of remembrance and celebration will take place at Morris United Methodist Church on Friday, October 2 at 1:00pm. Arrangements are by Johnston Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sarita's honor to the Morris United Methodist Church or the Village Library of Morris.
