RETA M. BOISE
Reta M. Boise, 88, passed away at the Oneida Healthcare, Oneida, NY on Friday, September 25, 2015. She was born on January 15, 1927 at the family homestead in Preston, NY, the daughter of Eddie S. and Grace (Hodge) Money. Reta was educated in both Oxford Academy and the Norwich High School. On October 6, 1945 she married George C. Boise in the Methodist Church of New Berlin, NY. They were looking forward to celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary with family and friends.
In Reta’s teen years she was a waitress at the Imperial Restaurant and also worked at the Norwich Knitting Mill. For a short time, later in life, she worked for the Credit Bureau of Norwich. In 1950 Reta and George bought their dairy farm in Preston which they ran for 35 years. Reta had an appreciation for the outdoors and farm animals. Reta was active in helping with the day - to - day operation of the farm and keeping the farm books. In later years she particularly enjoyed the time she and George spent at the camp they built in Preston. She also volunteered at the Pink Door and in the café at Chenango Memorial Hospital. She had been a member of the West Side Park Norwich Senior Center and was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church.
Reta also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and doing jigsaw puzzels, many of which we framed and the companionship of the family Beagle, PollyAnna. She and George traveled extensively throughout the United States having visited 48 of the 50 states.
Reta is survived by her husband George and daughter Vicky Lynn Alexandra of Durhamville, NY with whom she and George have resided for the past several years; a nephew Wayne H. Rice of Interlachin, FL, two great nephews, Trenton (Debbie) Rice of Canastota, NY and Thomas Rice also of Canastota, NY, a great great nephew and niece, Trevor Rice and Elizabeth Rice both of Oneida, NY along with several cousins. She also leaves special family and friends, Jack Williams of Durhamville, NY, Frances and Charles Joseph of Sherrill, NY, Marcia and Wayne Martin of Rome, NY, Donna and Irv Hobin of Holland Patent, NY, Brian and Dee Ward of Edmeston, NY, Tom and Joanne LeFaivre of Camden, NY, Daniel and Carol Urtz of Blossvale, NY and a special caregiver Rose Chesebro of Blossvale, NY. She was predeceased by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Wanda E. (Harold) Rice and Gladys E. (Joseph) Dibble and an infant brother Lynn Money.
We want to extend our appreciation to the Case Manager, her staff, the nurses and aides on the fifth floor of the Oneida Extended Care Facility during Reta’s brief stay. Their care, concern and compassion were greatly appreciated. We also want to thank the Vienna Fire Department and the Vineall Ambulance personnel for their prompt response.
A funeral service for Reta will be held on Tuesday, September 29 at 1:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Nancy Hale, Pastor of the Broad St. United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm.
Reta had suffered for 40 years with heart disease having had three heart surgeries in Elmira, Albany and Utica and yet lived her life to the fullest. Please consider memorial contributions to The American Heart Association, P.O.Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.
