BURLINGTION FLATS – Donald M. Weissflog, 84, of Burlington Flats, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015, at the home of Robert & Susan Hemstrought, dear friends, of East McDonough following a battle with cancer.
Don was born in Washington, NJ, the son of Martin & Helena (Karlries) Weissflog. He graduated from Dover High School in 1948 and Teterboro School of Aeronautics of New Jersey in November 1951. He served in the Marine Reserves from 1948 – 1950 and then the United States Air Force from 1953-1957 serving proudly in the Korean War. While in New Jersey he was employed by Butler School Distrcit as Superintendent of Building & Grounds. In 1985 he married Nancy and had enjoyed traveling especially to Israel. They moved to Burlington Flats where they operated a sheep farm until 2004 where he also raised two grandchildren Keturah & Aaron Willey.
Don’s last employment was with Precisionmatics from 1994 until retiring in 2014 due to his illness. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Hartford, NY and a lifetime member of the VFW in Cooperstown.
Don is survived by his fiancée and companion of 10 years Marie Whaley, his dear frineds Robert and Susan Hemstrought of East McDonough, his 3 children Donna Haney of Millsboro, DE, Debbie Verrier and Dorrine Chwazik of Dover, NJ. Also surviving are 5 grandchilden and 4 great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Don will be held on will be held on Saturday, October 3, at 1:00 pm from his home at 122 Renwick Road, Burlington Flats, NY.
