OSCAR J. (OJ) SCHAEFER
NORWICH – Oscar J. (OJ) Schaefer, 87, of Norwich, passed away unexpectedly September 8, 2015 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
OJ was born on December 17, 1927 in Passaic, NJ the son of Oscar and Rose (Obselka) Schaefer. At the early age of 4 he moved with his family to East Hamilton where he grew up on the family farm. A veteran of the United States Army he served his country from March of 1951 until his honorable discharge in February 1953. While making his home in Norwich he was employed by P&G for 29 years where he worked as a truck driver, worked in the receiving dept. as well as security.
OJ was a loving dad, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed his “family time” He loved telling stories and spending time in his garden. He has spent the past several years with the joy of his life, Rose Conant, enjoying many rides thru the countryside.
OJ is survived by his companion Rose Conant of Norwich, his children Linda Forster and companion Nate Twitchell of Oxford, John Schaefer and companion Sharon Perry and Kimberly Walker and husband Andrew all of Norwich. Also surviving are his grandchildren Hannah Dean, James Dean, Tonnia Wakefield, Jeremy Tompkins, Zachary and Cody Schraft, Alyssa Youngs, Ashlee Strobel, Jeremy and Rachel Walker along with several grandchildren, great grandchildren, neices and nephews.
OJ was predeceased by his wife Betty Jean, his children Joanne Schraft and James Schaefer , his sisters Johanna and Anne and his brother Robert Schaefer.
A funeral service for OJ will be held on Monday, September 14, at 11:00 am from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday from 2-4 pm.
