C. GARTH GREY
NORWICH – C. Garth Grey, 75, of Norwich and well known business man, passed away Tuesday morning, September 8, 2015, at the Crouse-Irving Hospital of Syracuse with family at his side.
Garth was born on November 25, 1939 in Berwick, PA the son of George and Sarah (George) Grey. He was a 1957 graduate of the Berwick High School and in 1958 entered the United States Army serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1962. He worked for a brief period of time as a milk inspector , for GIF in Ithaca and Agway. Garth and his family came to Norwich in 1973 and in 1980 opened his own accounting practice, C. Garth Grey Accounting which he operated for many years.
Garth was involved with the local Republican Party having served as the Treasurer for the Republican Party and this year received an award for his years of service to the party. He also worked for many years on the election board.
Throughout his adult life Garth was always involved with his children and grandchildren in many of their sporting events cheering them on and giving his advice. He enjoyed participating in the Annual Gus Macker Tournament, volunteering his time as a “Gus Buster”. Another favorite past time was watching the NASACR races.
On May 23, 1959 in New Milford, PA he married Jane Tingley who survives. Besides his wife Jane he is survived by his children Gail Steiber and husband Chris of Norwich, Col. Dale Grey of O’Fallon, ILL, David Grey of Columbus, Terri Grey-Wessels and husband Brian of Norwich and Victor Grey also of Norwich. Also surviving are his grandchildren Tyler Steiber, Kaleigh Natoli and husband Michael, Garrett Steiber, Ethan and Wyatt Grey, Grant Wessels, Austin Matlack-Grey, Jonathan Matlack-Grey, Harrison Matlack-Grey, Seth Wessels and Trent Wessels, his great granddaughter Italia Natoli, his brother Richard Grey and wife Barb of CA, his daughter-in-law Judy Nelson-Grey and several nieces and nephews.
Garth was predeceased by his parents and his sister Patty Malone.
A funeral service for Garth will be held on Saturday at 1:00 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor William Hagenbuch of the First Hartford Congregational Church UCC will officiate. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of the service at 1:00 pm.
