OWEN ‘JOHN’ OWENS JR
NORWICH – Owen “John” Owens, Jr., 67, of Norwich, passed away Monday afternoon August 24, 2015, in the New York State Veteran’s Home, Oxford with his loving family by his side. John was born September 21, 1947, in New Berlin, the son of Owen J. Sr. and Madeline (Craw) Owens. On June 27, 1971 he married Judith McGuire in St. Augustine Church, Methuen, Mass.
John was a true “Newspaper Guy”. Throughout his career he worked for several newspapers. He worked as Regional Manager for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune. He also worked for the Boston Globe as well as delivering newspapers to hundreds of customers in the Norwich area for the Press & Sun Bulletin and Pennysaver. John also worked as the head cook for the Andover, Mass. Country Club. John was extremely proud to have served his country in the United States army doing tours of duty in Korea as well as Vietnam.
John had many hobbies. He loved to play cards and enjoyed fishing and cooking in his spare time. He was also a local sports enthusiast volunteering for various booster clubs. John was also a Life Member of the Norwich VFW.
John is survived by his loving wife Judith Owens. Besides his wife he is survived by his children Owen J. Owens III of Norwich , Roberta Caballero of Norwich, Heather Owens of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Dorothy Owens of Norwich. John is also survived by his grandchildren Austin DeMorier and Amya Caballero, his brother Harold T. Owens, his sisters Constance (Owens) Warren of Virginia and Muriel (Owens) Williams of Nebraska, and Edna Owens of Buffalo, N.Y.
John was predeceased by his sister Starr Towndrow.
A Funeral Service will be held for Owen “John” Owens, Jr. on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 1 pm in the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home with the Rev. Matt Frayer of the Norwich Bible Baptist Church, officiating. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich.
Friends may call Monday August 31, 2015 at the funeral home from 11 am until the time of the service.
