BETTIE A. PERTILLA-GANTT
NORWICH – Bettie A. Pertilla-Gantt, 77, a lifelong Norwich resident, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Bettie was born in Norwich on May 21, 1938 the daughter of Ulysess W. Tribble and Margaret Pertilla. She was a 1956 graduate of the Norwich High School and also attended  SUNY  Morrisville  where she was a member of the Dean’s List.  Over the years Bettie had worked for the Chenango Memorial Hospital, the Norwich Knitting Mill, Victory Markets as a billing clerk, the Chenango Inn and Treadway Inn, the Meadowview Restaurant & Motel, the Candlewick Inn and last the Norwich Pharmacal Co. She was also a life member of the Norwich V.F.W. Post 2782.
Bettie’s main focus throughout her life was her family. She enjoyed many family get togethers and gatherings. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life.
Bettie is survived by her children Samuel M. Pertilla and wife Laurie Jerome, Lucille (Lucy) Pertilla and companion William (Skip ) Barlow and Jeanette A. Pertilla all of Norwich and Laurene D. Brown (Norwich) and husband Samuel  V. Brown from Far Rockaway, Queens. Her brothers Charles Pertilla and wife Alice of Phoenix, AZ and Paul Pertilla of Johnson City. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Alethia D. Pertilla and husband Souley Camara, Tecora A. Pertilla and fiancé Sabree White, Andrea Pertilla and fiancé Khyle Sherman, Eric D. Pertilla, Terell Smith, Joshua Whaley and girlfriend Chelsea Smith, Kiana T. Smith and boyfrien Paul Lackos, Millenia Brown, Jakyah Pertilla, Aquari V. Brown, Alexis V. Brown, Joy Jerome and Teddy Jerome, great grandchildren Dovante Pertilla, Sha-Tera Alexis L. Pertilla, Souley T. Camara-Pertilla, Kiara Sherman, Kayla Sherman, Sariah Alexandria B. Pertilla, Tyrus Sherman, Aaliyah Pertilla, Elyce Sherman, TeAndre Pertilla-White and Jelani Slofkosky. In addition, Bettie is survived by Victor Vasquez who she took in as her son and his daughter Tanisha Willets  as her Granddaughter, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bettie was predeceased by her husband James Gantt, her infant daughter Bettie May, her great grandson Edwin Pertilla, her brother Harold “Hap” Pertilla and son-in-law Richard Darryl Cheshire.
A funeral service for Bettie will be held on Monday, August 17, at Noon from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of the service at Noon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to R.J. Fahy Funeral Home in her name.
