ROGER H. SHEDD
SHERBURNE - Roger H. Shedd, 79, of Sherburne, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2015 in the Chenango Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born January 27, 1936 in Endicott, NY the son of Arthur M. Shedd and Kathryn E. (Biesecher) Shedd. Both of his parents predeceased him. On March, 13, 1959 he married Minnie E. Rickard in Norwich, she predeceased him. Roger was also married to Roberta Phillips. Although Roger’s 2nd marriage ended in divorce, he and Roberta remained very close.
Roger served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged May 31st 1964. Roger was employed by the Chenango County Highway Department for 29 years, where he held several different positions retiring as a truck driver for the County.
In his spare time Roger loved to fish and walk along the streams and creeks looking for the ideal fishing spot. He was one that could not sit still for very long as he always enjoyed being busy. Roger loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren to whom he was affectionately known as “Papa”.
Roger is survived by his children; Ralph Shedd of Sherburne, Bruce Shedd of Smyrna, Charles Shedd of Smyrna; Bette Lewinski and her fiancé Larry Hall of Sherburne, Cindy Hart and her companion Herbert Hovencamp, Jr. of Sherburne. His brothers; Frank “Bud” Shedd, Arlyn Shedd, His sisters; Lillian Donnelly, Margaret Prindle, and Dawn Collier. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Roger was predeceased by his daughter Nora Sheldon in 2008. He was also predeceased by his brother Ray Shedd and his sister Elizabeth Blaisdell.
A funeral service for Roger will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 1 pm in the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Matt Frayer, Pastor of the Bible Baptist Church will officiate. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in South Plymouth Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 am until the time of the service.
