RUTH INTRES
Naples, FL – Ruth Estelle (Frederick) Intres, 84 of Naples, FL and previously of Norwich, NY passed in her sleep on Thursday August 6, 2015, after a period of declining health.
Ruth was born on September 5, 1929 in Patterson, NJ to Lillian and Walter Frederick. She was the second youngest of seven children and loved being part of a large family. As a child Ruth developed polio which crippled her leg but she never allowed her disability to slow her down or keep her from enjoying life.
She left high school early to work in a glass factory. Ruth loved to dance despite her disability and through this activity met Jean Jacob Intres at a dance and they were married on September 3, 1950. Ruth and Jean had 5 children together and moved to several cities as Jean advanced in his career. They eventually put down roots in Norwich, NY where they lived for more than 50 years. During that time Ruth volunteered as a Brownie leader, was on the board of the Chenengo Memorial Hospital Auxillary, and enjoyed entertaining family, friends, and many of Jean’s colleagues at their beautiful home on South Broad Street. By far Ruth’s greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren. After Jean’s retirement in 1992, they spent winters in Florida and eventually moved there full time.
Ruth is survived by her five children – Patricia (Charles) Brown, Gary (Deb) Intres, Richard (Nancy) Intres, Charles (Jenny) Intres, and Catherine (Michael) Natoli as well as eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, and her husband.
A funeral service for Ruth will be held on Friday, August 14, at 2 pm from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. Friends are invited to call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m.
