FRANCIS YERDON
CANTON – Francis “Vic” Yerdon, 92 of Canton, passed away on July 22, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family and Hospice. There will be no calling hours or services. Interment will be in Cherry Valley Cemetery at a later date. Vic was born on February 17, 1923 in East Hill, Cherry Valley, NY the son of Victor and Alberta (Clearwater) Yerdon. He graduated from Cherry Valley High School and worked at Rurys Food Store and several A & P’s in the area. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during WW II. He then went to work for A & P in Cooperstown, Fort Plain. Vic attended Hartwick College. On April 8, 1950 he married Alice Olmsted in Canajoharie Methodist Church. He worked for General Electric in Utica- New Hartford area. He owned and operated a grocery store in Leonardsville, NY until he went to work for the State of New York Department of Mental Hygiene where he retired in 1980 and then operated a grocery store in South Otselic, NY. He was an enthusiastic car club member of the New England, M. G. Club. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and sporting events. Surviving Vic is his beloved wife Alice of 65 years and two daughters Laura Martin of Tucker, GA; and Brenda and Edward Bennett of Massena, NY; two granddaughters Sarah and Derek Constantine of Hull, MA, Jennifer Martin of Tucson, AZ, a great grandson Theodore Albert Constantine, also surviving Vic is a sister, Phyllis VanAlstine of Boulder City, NV, a nephew, Reginald Van Alstine and a niece Karen and David Bateman of Oregon, a sister in-law Roberta and brother in-law Thomas McCarthy both of Cherry Valley, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Cherry Valley United Methodist Church PO Box 483, Cherry Valley, NY 13320, Canton Rescue Squad or Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
