RICHARD MATTICE
NORWICH – Richard E. Mattice, 61, lifelong resident of Norwich, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown with family by his side.
Born March 15, 1954, Richard was the son of Richard and Elsie (Powers) Mattice. After graduating from Norwich High School with the class of 1972, Richard pursued a career in public safety. He started his cherished career as a police officer with the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, and ended as the county’s Deputy Sheriff. Richard retired from the police force in 2000.
On December 31, 1978, Richard married his beloved wife, Dorothy (Legg) Mattice, who survives. He was a dedicated loving husband, father and grandfather. Richard also enjoyed riding on his Harley Davidson motorcycle, fishing and bowling.
In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his daughter, Crystal Slater and her husband, Dan, of Norwich, their daughters, Cassie and Hailey; two step-daughters, Michelle Hoag and her husband, Vern, of Norwich, their sons, Brock, Zachary and Skyler, and Heather Dawson of Kentucky and her sons, Dustin, Troy and Kameron, and great grandson, Aiden. Richard’s sister, Elizabeth Pedersen and her husband Dan, of Norwich, also survives.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015, at the Emmanuel Episcopal Church, where the Very Reverend Charles Taylor, pastor, will officiate. Friends are invited to call at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in Richard’s memory may be made to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Camp, care of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Department, 279 County Road 46, Norwich, NY 13815.
