Spencer Hall


UTICA – Spencer C. Hall, 70, of Columbus Ave., Utica, formerly of Ilion and Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford.
He was born on Dec. 29, 1938, in West Exeter, the son of Clyde and Doris (Wiggins) Hall, graduated from Ilion High School and attended Utica College. He was a Vietnam veteran and served in the U.S. Army. Spencer was a station manager with the U.S. Postal Services, Syracuse, for 27 years, retiring in 1992. Most recently, he was a Hospital Patient Sitter at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford, for four years. Spencer was a member of the Norwich American Legion No. 189, a Hospice volunteer and active in Boy Scouts for many years, receiving the Eagle Scout Award. He was also a Registered Camping and Canoeing Guide with NYSDEC.
Survivors include one sister, Ormetta Dodson, of Seattle, Wash.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Selma Hall of Washington, D.C., Richard and Helen Hall of Forestport, and David and Rosemary Bryant of Norwich; a lifetime friend and companion, Nancy Jarose of Clifton Park; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a close friend and companion, Brenda Fox of Rome.
Spencer was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Charlotte Clancy.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Applegate-Day & Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Aeme Rd., Ilion, with Rev. Jeremy Stopford, pastor of the Earlville Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Exeter Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the funeral home service.
