Charles Franklin


PRESTON – Charles H. Franklin, 78, life-long resident of the Preston/East Pharsalia area, passed away Sunday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2009, at the Bridgewater Nursing Home of Binghamton where he had made his home for the past several years.
Born in Pharsalia in December of 1930, Charles was the son of Cecil and Lucy Phetteplace Franklin. He attended the Preston schools and was a 30-year employee of the Town of Preston Highway Dept., while concurrently operating his own farm in Preston. A happy-go-lucky and accommodating fellow by nature, he could be stubborn and firm if the situation called for it. On March 5, 1976, he married Eleanor Ayer Franklin, who predeceased him on Aug. 10, 2009.
Charles is survived by his children: Allison Armlin and husband Charles of Norwich, Mary Tuttle of Norwich, and Charles Munyan of Utica: his grandchildren: Jolene Armlin, Deanna and Samantha Reigles, and Scott and Tara Tuttle; and great grandchild, Maliek Sturdevant. He is also survived by his sister, Cora Monell and husband Donald of East Pharsalia, his brother, Clyde Franklin of Preston, and nieces and nephews; and was predeceased by his brothers, Claude and Clarence.
Funeral services for Charles will be held at noon Friday from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Hinman of the Bible Baptist Church, and Charles’ brother-in-law, Donald Monell, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery of Preston.
Friends are invited to call at the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the service at noon.
