Herbert Stafford


OXFORD – Herbert T. Stafford, 95, of Stafford Road, Oxford passed away on Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006 at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich. 
He was born on Oct. 14, 1910 in the Town of Preston, the son of the late Arthur and Vivian (English) Stafford. On June 26, 1939 he married Alma Wilcox, who passed away on Aug. 3, 2005.
In 1913 his family moved to a dairy farm in the Town of Oxford. He graduated from Oxford Academy and Central School in 1928. He was a dairy farmer in Oxford for many years and drove school bus for Oxford Academy and Central School for 14 years. He was a licensed airplane pilot and a member of the Midstate Flying Club for 10 years. He was a member of the United Church of Oxford for 78 years. His hobbies were flying, gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Ruth Stafford of Oxford; his daughter and son-in-law, June and Jerry Hunt of Victor; his grandchildren, John Stafford of Norwich, Craig Hunt of Hershey, Pa. and Terri Bierasinski of Akron, N.Y.; five great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford with the Rev. Norman Holtz, pastor of Faith Bible Church officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oxford Fire Department Emergency Squad.
