Raymond Going

NORWICH – Raymond E. Going, 63, of Justin, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Aug. 27, 2009, in the Town of Rice, Pa.
Born in Chatham, Conn., in December of 1945, Ray was the son of Raymond and Charlotte Dolan Going Sr. He moved with his family to East Pharsalia in 1951 and went to the Norwich schools until his senior year, when he attended and graduated Oxford High School. Ray then entered the U.S. Navy, serving his country from February of 1963 through his honorable discharge in June of 1964. He returned to East Pharsalia for a time before moving to Texas, where he resided for the last 35-plus years. A cross-country trucker by profession, his current and last employer was Design Trucking out of Ft. Worth. A free spirit with wit and charm, a man who could “sell snow to an Eskimo,” Ray liked doing a little gambling and enjoyed a good game of cards. He also played guitar and loved country music.
Ray is survived by his daughters: Karen Slater and husband Duke of Norwich and Karyl Holloway of Richland, Texas; his wife Julia of Justin, Texas; his sister, Kathleen Russell of Norwich and half-sister Joyce Chapman of Dunwoody, Ga.; and his brother, Marshall “Buster” Going ad wife Diane of Kemp, Texas, and half-brother Ronald Going of California. Also surviving are grandchildren Cory Slater and wife Anda, Brain Slater, Christopher Slater and Krystal Perkins, as well as four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Shaun Going.
Please note: Services previously announced for Ray have been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Arrangements are by the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home.
