JOHANNA K. LAWTON
NORWICH – Johanna K. Lawton, 87, of Norwich and most recently of the Bida Adult Home in Oxford, passed away Friday morning, May 22, 2015, in the Wilson Hospital of Johnson City.
Johanna was born on September 27, 1927 in Midland Park, NJ the daughter of Arie and Johanna (Rupka) Koerts. She attended the Greene schools and in 1945 she married Francis J. Lawton who passed away in 2003. She and her husband built the first home on North Pond in Guilford which is now Camp Mesorah where they lived for 27 years. Johanna also made her home in Norwich for another 27 years and in 2002 moved to Denver, CO to be near her family eventually moving back in 2006. Over the years she had worked as a Nurses Aide at Chenango Memorial Hospital and for a period of 12 years worked in the cafeterias of the Norwich Schools as well as the Chenango Valley Home.
Johanna is survived by her sons Glen Lawton and wife Patrice of Denver, CO, Francis Lawton II and wife Nancy of Washington, her sister Nanda Cook of Vestal along with 8 grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband Francis, she was predeceased by her daughter Grace McGarvey, son Daniel Lawton, her sisters Nellie Testa, Hilda Eckenrode, Addie Smith, Marie and her brother Arie Koerts.
A graveside service for Johanna will be held on Friday, May 29, at 10 a.m. from the Riverview Cemetery of Oxford. There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are with the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home.
