Constance Callea


NORWICH – Constance S. “Connie” Callea, 83, of Norwich, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at her home with family at her side.
Born June 25, 1931, in Buffalo, Connie was the daughter of John and Mary (Zappia) Sartori. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy with the Class of 1949, and then worked for New York Telephone in Buffalo.
On September 6, 1952, in Buffalo, Connie married Louis C. Callea who died in 1977. Following their marriage, Connie and Louis moved to Arlington, VA while Louis was in the service. They returned to the Buffalo area before moving to Monticello where Connie worked in the high school guidance department. They came to Norwich in 1972, and Connie worked for several years as an account clerk for the Chenango County Department of Social Service, retiring in the early 1990’s.
Connie was a member of St. Paul’s Church.
Connie’s greatest pride was her family and she devoted herself to being a mother and a grandmother (Nana). Connie is survived by her daughter, LuAnn Callea-Friedberg and her husband, Larry, of Gainesville, FL; her sons and their wives, Gary J. and Linda J. Callea, of Norwich and Louis J. and Linda C. Callea, also of Norwich; grandchildren, Jenifer, Christine, Brian and Joseph and great grandchildren, Juliette and Tyler. She is also survived by her best friend and sister, Antoinette “Toni” LiPuma, of Buffalo, and several nieces and nephews. Connie was predeceased by a brother, John. Connie also leaves behind her special friends Joyce Zirkel, Betsey Faucher, and Debbie Martinson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at St. Paul’s Church with Rev. Ralph Bove, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
