David P. Whitney


SOUTH PLYMOUTH – David P. Whitney, 76, of South Plymouth, went to meet his Savior at his home Monday evening, May 4, 2015, with his family present.
Dave was born, in the house where he passed on his birthday, May 4, 1939 in South Plymouth the son of Harold E. and Edith A. Pierce Whitney. He made his home in South Plymouth all of his life and was educated in the local schools. On August 3, 1974 he married Helen Brennan who survives. He had worked a total of 35 years for Victory Markets and following their closing he became employed by Raymond Corp. as a security guard.
Dave was a devoted family man who loved spending time with all of his family. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed his hunting. He was a very gentle and lite hearted guy who at times was quite humorous. Dave loved a good joke and could often be heard making wise cracks about one thing or another. He was a longtime member of the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church.
Dave is survived by his wife Helen of South Plymouth, his children; Terri Lewis and husband Roland of So. New Berlin, Connie Lewis and husband Brian of New Berlin, Charles Lang and wife Kerry of Webster, NY, Susan Hoyt of Port Crane, Howard Whitney and wife Kari of Elizabethtown, KY and David Whitney of Endicott. Also surviving is the previous Sandra May Whitney of South Plymouth, his brother Harold E. Whitney and wife Sandra of Hayden, Idaho, 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Dave was predeceased by his sister Maryann Whitney.
A celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Saturday, May 9, at 2 p.m. from the Canasawacta Valley Free Methodist Church of Norwich. Pastor Ron Sawade will officiate.
There will be no calling hours.
