THOMAS M. MURPHY
SHERBURNE – Thomas M. Murphy, 67, of Knapp Rd., passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born August 20, 1947 in Oneida, NY, a son of the late Edward and Veneta Rossman Murphy and was a graduate of Earlville High School. On October 11, 1970, Thomas married Sally A. Dickinson in Hamilton, NY. She predeceased him on February 16, 2008. Tom started his career as a self-employed carpenter. During the 1980’s he owned and operated Grizzly King River Trips. Later, he worked in the carpenter shop at Colgate University in Hamilton where he was the shop foreman until his retirement. His favorite sports were fishing and golf. He was a culinary connoisseur and had a marvelous fashion sense, coordinating every outfit.
Tom was a member Trout Unlimited Chenango Valley Chapter #209, of Norwich, and a former member or the Odd Fellows Lodge #669 of Hamilton.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Young; his children, Melissa Christianson, of Salida, CO; Meghan and Bill Mulholland, of Roseberg, OR; John Healy and Clare McConell of Hamilton; a special son, Bret Carhart of Vernon; sister and brother-in-law, Tracy and Tom Piatti of Sherburne; brothers and sister-in-law, Mark Murphy of Sherburne; Ted and Kelly Murphy of Leadville, CO; and Mike Murphy of Littleton, CO; his grandchildren, Jacob, Hannah, Vanessa, Aydin and Harper; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial Services will be held 2pm Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 25 Broad St., Hamilton, NY.
Interment in Colgate Cemetery, Hamilton will be private at the convenience of his family.
Friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Saturday from Noon to 2pm prior to the service.
