MILDRED I. ADSIT
SHERBURNE – Mildred I. Adsit, 91, of State Highway 12, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the UHS/Chenango Memorial Residential Healthcare Facility in Norwich.
She was born October 29, 1923 in Bradford, PA, one of 12 children of William and Blanche MIller Dibble. She was a graduate of Otto High School and received a BA from Syracuse University. On August 24, 1961, Mildred married Floyd Adsit in Georgetown. He predeceased her on December 18, 2004. In the 1950’s, Mildred was a missionary in the Republic of Niger in Africa. Later, she taught French in the Sherburne-Earlville School District, retiring in 2002. She was also a substitute teacher and tutored many children. She was a talented musician who played the organ, piano and accordion. She enjoyed doing family geneology.
Mildred was an active member of the Faith Baptist Tabernacle in Sherburne where she was the organist and pianist for 40 years. She was a compassionate person who touched many lives. She was a member of Gideon’s International and gave out bibles.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Floyd and Angela Adsit of Wake Forest, NC; William and Kathleen Adsit of Sherburne; four daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Dale and June Black, both of Sherburne; Carla Adsit-Vassari of Waterford, NY; Christine and Neil Schupp of Corinth, NY; thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her eleven siblings; two grandsons, Rick and Mark Dale; and three sons-in-law, Dick Dale, Wayne Black and Walter Vassari.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Monday, April 13, 2015 from the Faith Baptist Tabernacle, Utica Rd., Sherburne, with her son-in-law, Neil Schupp officiating.
Interment in West Hill Cemetery will be at a later date.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Faith Baptist Tabernacle, 10 Utica Rd., Sherburne, NY 13460.
