LLOYD S. HICKOX
NORWICH – Lloyd S. (Slim) Hickox, 82, of Norwich, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 4, 2015, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Slim was born on August 29, 1932 in Munnsville, NY the son of Leon B. and Luella (Sherman) Hickox. He grew up in the Stockbridge and Munnsville area where he attended the local schools. Following his schooling, Slim entered the United States Army serving his country from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1956. He was stationed at Fort Lee and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal. In 1959 Slim came to Norwich and had worked for the Binghamton Press, Silver Farm Dairy and most recently for Procter & Gamble. While employed by P&G he was involved in the production of Norwich asprin and pepto bismal. He also operated Slim’s Small Engine Repair.
Slim was a well known volunteer member of the Norwich Fire Dept. and was also one of the Depts.Fire Police. He could often be seen at the scene of an accident or fire directing traffic.
Slim is survived by his wife Dorothy of Norwich, his daughter Christina (Chris) Brasiel and husband Dewayne of Norwich, his step-son Richard Drake and wife Diane of Brisben and his sister Mildred Schenk of Morrisville. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Grandpa’s special little girl Addie M. Shapley of Afton along with 10 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Slim was predeceased by his step-sons Stephen and Thomas Drake, his sister Eunice Frost and his brothersRussell, Keith and Carl Hickox.
A funeral service for Slim will be held on Thursday April 9, at 1 p.m. from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Jay Zaremba, Pastor of the Central Baptist Church of Greene will officiate. Interment will be at a later date.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
