DANIEL B. MONROE
SMYRNA – Daniel B. Monroe, 70, a life long resident of the Smyrna area, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 6, 2015, at his home.
Dan was born in Smyrna on June 25, 1944 the son of Leslie and Ila (Byrd) Monroe. He spent his entire life in Smyrna where he attended the local schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country until his honorable discharge in 1963. Dan was employed for over 30 years by Procter&Gamble where he worked in the receiving dept.
Dan has made his home “on the hill” for many, many years. He loved to fish, hunt, go camping, make trips to the casino and enjoyed a good game of cards. He recently lost one of his best buddies, Clarence Knapp with whom he enjoyed many good times.
Dan is survived by his children, Amy Graham and husband Timothy of Smyrna, Tammy Monroe of Mt. Vision, his sister Doris Shaw of Earlville and brothers William (Bill) Monroe of Sherburne and Fred Monroe of Chicago. Also surviving are his grandchildren Travis Foster, Kayla Sweet, Trishia Sweet, Zachariah Sweet, Whitney Graham, Brett Graham, great grandchildren Gavin Sweet, Travis Foster, Tori Foster along with several nieces and nephews and his companion Frances Dick of Smyrna.
Dan was predeceased by his wife Patricia Morgan Monroe who passed away Nov. 19, 2000, his sister Nancy Graham and his former companion Cora Rivers.
A funeral service for Dan will be held on Friday at noon from the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Stephen Reese, Pastor of the Columbus Community Church will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Willcox Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
