WILLIAM WEEKS EATON
GRAND JUNCTION, CO – William Weeks Eaton, 54, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away March 10, 2015 after a short illness with colon cancer.
Born in Norwich, New York on September 7, 1960, Bill was the son of Thomas Jewell Eaton and Annette (Ruby) Eaton, the youngest of seven. During his childhood, “Pork” spent three years in Lexington, Kentucky, five years in Pompano Beach, FL, and returned to his hometown where he graduated from the Norwich High School, class of 1978. While in the high school he participated in varsity swimming, lettering all four years. He was the captain of the 1977-78 team, the only NHS team ever to win the Section 4 Class A Swimming Championships. He was a sectional finalist his junior and senior years in the freestyle and backstroke events. Bill also played end position on one of the first Norwich Pop Warner football teams.
Bill’s sweet disposition and sense of humor made friends and memories wherever he lived and worked. His many friends will remember ‘The Middle Lane,’ the boxing ring on Hayes St., the Waynesboro, Ga. work trip, Chenango Lake tree forts and stick fights, Smokey the pony, Kelsey, Camp Dudley, the ‘class clown,’ city team basketball, bird hunting, skiing, trout fishing and the beautiful west.
As an adult in the later part of his life, Bill’s main passion outside of family and work was golf, he lived to play the game with friends and family. Bill mentioned many times in recent years his dream was to golf in Scotland with his brothers. He will be remembered by family and friends for his ever-present smile and easy-going style!
He attended Delhi College, the University of Northern Iowa and Redrocks CC in Lakewood, Colorado, where he studied Construction Management. He spent his entire adult life in the state of Colorado. He first worked 18 years for his father-in-law, Norm Sanders, managing the family’s True Value hardware business in Silverthorne and worked 10 years as a salesman for the Fowler-Peth Roofing Company in the Granby and Grand Junction areas.
A devoted and loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 28 years Julie (Sanders), his children Elena Jewell, Ross Sanders, and twins Ben William and Joanna Marie, a granddaughter Brielle Jewell, his father Thomas Jewell Eaton and wife Theodora (Moses), his mother Annette (Ruby) Eaton, his brothers Thomas J. and wife Mary, Robert S. and wife Carol, Melvin C. and wife Sandra, Paul R. and wife Agnes, Andrew C. and wife Dawn, sister Kathryn E. and husband Peter Flanagan and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be made to a cancer center of your choice.
