JOYCE V. HALBERT
NEW BERLIN – Joyce V. Halbert, 89 yrs. old of New Berlin, NY & Palmetto, FL passed away on March 29, 2015 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich, NY.
Joyce was born on July 1, 1925 in New Berlin, NY the daughter of Hubert & Evelyn (Peake) Vail. Her childhood was spent on the Vail Farm in New Berlin and she was a graduate of New Berlin Central School.
On June 2, 1944 she married Thomas Russell Halbert who predeceased her on March 2, 1990.
Joyce was employed as a teacher’s aide at New Berlin Central School. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Palmetto, FL and the American Legion Post 348 in New Berlin. For many years she was actively involved in activities at the First Baptist Church of New Berlin including the Vacation Bible School, the Junior & Senior choirs and Jet Cadets. She also served as a Scout Den Mother. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, reading, sewing, folk art and tole painting.
Joyce is survived by her children; Jeff Halbert & partner Ron Arigo of Aurora, CO, Kim Halbert of Norwich, NY, Lisa & Eb Jaquay of Red Lion, PA and Jodi Smith of Norwich, NY as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-laws, Myra Vail and Charlotte Oliphant, brother-in-law; Peter D’Ambrosio, special cousin; Beverly Harris and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and cousins.
She was pre-deceased by one brother, Norman Vail.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 3, 2015 from 5:00-9:00 PM at the Dakin Funeral Home LP, New Berlin, NY.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 4, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church, South New Berlin with Pastor Kurt Funke officiating.
The interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin, NY.
