SHERBURNE – Jean Crippen Knapp, 86, of South Main St., passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 at home.
She was born in 1928 in Buffalo, NY, a daughter of Phillip Martin and Mildred Ola Morton Crippen. She was raised in Stamford, NY until her family moved to Sherburne in 1944. She graduated from Sherburne High School in 1946. Jean married Frank Jay Knapp on June 27, 1959 in Sherburne. He predeceased her on April 28, 1990. Jean had worked at the NYS Veterans Home in Oxford and the medical library at Syracuse University School of Medicine prior to her marriage. While raising her family, she worked at the Sherburne Elementary School cafeteria from 1972 until 1980, when she purchased the Bakers’ Boutique and operated it for 15 years, retiring at age 70. Jean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who was devoted to her family and enjoyed joining in or attending all their activities.
Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sherburne. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Tiandara Chapter #631 of Sherburne for over 50 years.
Surviving are her children, Patricia and James Putman of Johnson City; Sandra and Peter Karaman of Sherburne; Alyce and Todd Glazier of Plano, TX; John and Stacy Knapp of Mason, OH; her beloved grandchildren, Ashlee and Kaitlyn Putman; Emma, Molly, Thaddeus and Rebecca Karaman; Ryne and Logan Glazier; Drew and Trey Knapp; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Turner in 2012, and a brother, Philip Crippen in 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 11am Tuesday, April 7, 2015 from the First United Methodist Church, Chapel St., Sherburne.
Interment in West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne will be in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Monday from 5-8pm.
