Virginia "ginny" Reid


VIRGINIA “GINNY” Q. REID
NORWICH – Ginny passed away at home on Feb. 26, 2015. She was the daughter of Rev. Harold Quincy and Maude Ross Quincy.
Ginny graduated from West Winfield CSD in 1938 and Keuka College in 1942 with a B.S. degree. She was a teacher in New Woodstock and Sherburne Schools. She was employed by Chenango Cooperative Insurance from February of 1955 to December of 1985. She was named Office Manager in 1972 and Assistant Secretary/Office Manager in 1982 when she was also elected to the Board of Directors.
Ginny was also a member of Chenango Valley Insurance Women, Mid-State Industrial Relations Council, and Order of Eastern Star. She was a very active member of The First Baptist Church in Norwich since 1941 where she was on the Board of Trustees, a Deaconess, Junior Choir Director, Sunday School Teacher, the President of First Baptist American Baptist Women, and Church Historian.
Ginny enjoyed traveling and traveled throughout New England. She also made trips to Colorado, Florida, Alaska, Curacao, England, and Scotland. She played the piano and organ by ear, wrote poetry, and placed other people above herself.
She was predeceased by her husband, Angus Reid, in 1982, and a brother, William Quincy, of Norwich. She is survived by sons James Reid of Clarkson, Wash., and David Reid and his wife, Connie Young, of Franklin, N.Y.; grandsons Nathan Reid and his wife Carolyn of E. Sandwich, Mass. and Andrew Reid of Fayetteville, N.C. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Connor Reid, Cullen Reid, and Brinley Reid, all of E. Sandwich, Mass. In addition, she is survived by sisters-in-law Audrey Reid and Anna Mae Quincy, both of Norwich, and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service to be held at a future date at the convenience of the family. It will be held at the First Baptist Church at a time and date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the First Baptist Church of Norwich or Hospice of Chenango County.
