ROBERT D. ROOD
NORWICH – Robert D. Rood, 97 of Norwich, formerly of Oxford passed away on March 22, 2015 at Chase Health Facility, New Berlin, NY. He was born on November 3, 1917 in Preble, NY, son of the late Clarence and Nellie Rood. On February 3, 1940 in Homer, NY, he married Martha Weishaupt, who survives.
Besides his wife, Martha, he is survived by his children, Eugene and Cathy Rood, Gary and DonnaLee Rood, and Susan and Rodney Bosworth; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason and Christopher Rood, Shelley Cogburn and Vicky Kramer; and sisters, Betty and Phyllis. Twelve great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters and by a son, Stanley.
Bob drove semis to milk plants all over New York State while living in Solan and Oxford. Around 1950 he began working for the WRC Home as a groundskeeper. Eventually becoming a Stationary Engineer at the WRC Home Power Plant where he worked for approx.30 years. He was an honorary member of the Oxford Fire Department with over 25 years active service. Following retirement he and Martha enjoyed 17 years in Spring Hill, FL prior to moving to Norwich. He enjoyed gardening, especially vegetables and gladiolas. He also enjoyed coon hunting with his brother- in- law, Walt Weishaupt and deer hunting with Bob Stafford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on April 9, 2015 at St. Joseph’s RC Church, State St., Oxford with Rev. Gerard Lupa officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 from 7:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be held Wed. at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery, PO Box 352, Oxford, NY or the Oxford Fire Department, PO Box 570, Oxford, NY.
