SOUTH NEW BERLIN – Bernadette A. (Bambi) Merritt Newby, 56, of South New Berlin passed away unexpectedly on Saturday afternoon, March 21, 2015, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
 Bambi was born in Norwich on April 14, 1958 the daughter of Bernard and Elizabeth (Betty) McNeil Merritt. She has spent her entire life in the Norwich and South New Berlin area and was a graduate of the Norwich High School and SUNY Morrisville. Following her education Bambi gained employment with Norwich – Eaton Pharmaceuticals and it’s successors working as a Computer Coding Tech. until her retirement.
 In the mid 1980’s Bambi was stricken with multiple sclerosis. Throughout her illness she remained  very pleasant, happy and upbeat. She enjoyed many, many telephone conservations with her family and friends and enjoyed spending time with her dogs. A lover of flowers she was especially fond of orchids which could be found growing in her home.
 Bambi is survived by her father Bernard (Bernie) Merritt of Norwich , her husband Daniel of South New Berlin, her children Tara Pettengill and husband Jake of Orlando, FL, Drew Newby and wife Jillian of Binghamton, Ryan Newby of New Berlin and Royx Newby and fiancee Brad of South New Berlin. Also surviving are her siblings, twin sister Bernadine (Bimbo) Perta and husband Peter of Dallas, TX, Brian Merritt and wife Rosemary of Liverpool, Russell Merritt and wife Victoria of Norwich and her grandchildren Elizabeth, William, Katherine and Stefen along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and brother-in-law Eric Wahlberg.
 Bambi was predeceased by her mother Elizabeth and sister Maureen Wahlberg.
A funeral service for Bambi will be held on Thursday, March 26, at 10 a.m. from the R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove, Pastor of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-6 pm.
