GREENE – Shirley E. Detweiler, 78, of Greene went to be with her husband Richard in heaven on Friday, March 20, 2015.
She was also predeceased by her parents, Herb and Carrie Eldred; brothers, Bob and Melvin Eldred. Shirley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Shaun and Lorraine Detweiler and their children Dylan, Ian and Zachery; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Stacey Detweiler and their children Tyler, Ryan, Jordan and Lance; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and John Carr, Linda and Charles Safford; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Ruth Eldred, Arthur and Yvonne Eldred, Barry and Cecilia Eldred; two sisters-in-law, Patsy Eldred and Betty Eldred; several nieces and nephews.
Shirley retired from Oxford Academy and Central School after 34 years of service. She was a very active member of the Order of Eastern Star #135 and was active in the Red, White and Blue Group. Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed. She is finally home.
Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Greene. Rev. Amy Gregory will officiate. Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene in the spring. Friends of the family may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene, NY 13778. A service will follow at 7 p.m. by Order of Eastern Star #135. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, Greene or to Oxford Central School Dollar for Scholars Program.
