DOUGLAS C. SCHULT
NORWICH – Douglas C. Schult, 57, of Norwich, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015, in the VA Medical Center of Syracuse where he was surrounded by friends and family.
Doug was born November 3, 1957, in Sacramento, CA, the son of Christian and Margaret (Holmes) Schult. As a part of an Air Force family he spent much of his childhood moving around before finally moving with his family to Spring Valley, NY. It was there he graduated from Spring Valley High School and then joined the Air Force shortly after his graduation. Doug spent the next 20 years serving his country and earned the rank of Master Sargent. While in the early years of his service he met his loving wife Helen Manning. They were married on June 24, 1979 in Spring Valley, NY.
Following his service in the military Doug and his family moved to Norwich following his father. Doug was employed by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for 18 years reaching the rank of Lieutenant and former Jail Administrator. He retired in October of 2013.
Doug is predeceased by his loving mother Margaret, father Christian and brother Donald. He is survived by his wife Helen of Norwich, his sons Derek and wife Courtnie of Cortland, Dallas and wife Sarah of Oneida, his siblings Dara Rooney and husband Ken of Norwich, David Schult of Kissimmee, FL and his sister-in-law Ursula of Brussels, Belgium.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Doug will be held in the spring from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church at a time to be announced. Interment with full military rites will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Monday, March 16, from 2-4, 7-9 pm.
