WILLIAM P. KANE
GUILFORD – William P. Kane, 77, of Guilford, NY passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015 at his residence with his family by his side.
Bill was born on November 28, 1937 in New York City, a son of Robert and Elizabeth (nee McCafferty) Kane.
Bill is survived by his wife Rita, his children, sons Egon (Angel) Graw, George (Kim) Graw and daughter Wendy Graw; grandchildren Samantha and Daniel Graw and Kyle Farnham.
Bill is also survived by his brother Robert Kane.
In June of 1956, Bill graduated with honors from Seton Hall High School. Bill served in the Armed Forces / National Guard from March of 1959 – August of 1961. He then attended SUNY Farmingdale with a major in Horticulture as well as obtaining certifications in various business courses.
Bill worked for the Long Island Developmental Center for 29 years. He held several different positions there including Maintenance Supervisor II where he supervised 80 employees, maintained 39 buildings housing 1,600 disabled clients on 475 acres in Melville, NY. He also provided technical assistance to community intermediate homes scattered throughout Suffolk and Nassau counties with an area covering approximately 2,500 square miles.
Upon his retirement from Long Island Developmental Center, Bill and Rita moved to their property in Upstate NY that has been in the family for 56 years – first residing at the Yaleville School House and then later settling into their permanent home in Guilford.
Bill was recognized and received many awards and certificates of achievement (too many to mention).
Additionally Bill was known for his consistently outstanding contributions and friendly hard working manner. Often performing tasks above and beyond what was expected.
Bills Hobbies included: Fishing, Boating, Landscaping, and Gardening.
Visitation will be held at Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main Street, Oxford, NY on Saturday, March 14, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. Friends and family may share their memories and condolences by visiting www.behefuneralhome.com.
