PATRICIA MARSO
Patricia Marie Connolly Marso died on March 8, 2015 at the New York State Veterans' Home, in Oxford, NY, at 93 years of age. She was the daughter of Daniel Joseph Connolly and Harriet Scanlon Connolly. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Joseph, husband, Joseph Lawrence Marso, daughter, Mary Marso Locke, and daughter-in-law, Shamoli Mukherjee Marso. She is survived by her brother, James Connolly and wife, Peggy ,four daughters , Patricia Ford and husband, Ivon, Susan Hoke and husband, Richard, Anne Baltz and husband, George, Kathleen Potter and husband, George. Pat is survived by three sons, Michael and wife, Barbara, Lawrence Marceau and wife, Mariko, Robert Marso, and son-in-law, James Locke and wife, Annabelle Irey. Surviving are the following grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) diPalma, Michael (Patricia) Ford, Patricia (Richard) Pinder, Maureen Hoke (William Harvey),Stephanie (Michael) Marrone, Katherine Locke (Courtney Wilburn), Timothy Locke, George Baltz (Jessica Shiu),Christopher Baltz, Emily (David) Snyder, Joseph Marso, James Marso ,Benjamin Marceau, Eileen Marceau, Marie Potter (Kent Charpentier),Denise (Brent) Aucoin, Karen(Charles)Langfeld, Theresa Potter, and Rachael Potter. She is, also, survived by several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Pat was born on December 21, 1921, in Buffalo, NY. She graduated from Mount St. Joseph's Academy, the Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1943, and received her BS in Nursing from Canisius College in 1956. Pat was sworn in as a 2nd. LT. in the US Army Nurse Corp. She served in the 2nd Service Command at Fort Dix Station Hospital and Thomas M. England Hospital. On April 7, 1945, Pat married Joseph L. Marso in New York City, at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi.
After the war, Joe and Pat made their home in Buffalo, NY, until Joe’s employment brought them to Oxford, NY. Although being a wife, mother, and grandmother were her most important roles, she lived a life of service to others. A communicant of St. Joseph’s Church, Pat lived her faith in her everyday life. She was very active in the Girl Scouts of America, having served as a scout troop leader, program committee chairperson, and on the Boards of Directors of both the Chenango County Council and the Indian Hills Council. As her boys grew, she became more active in Boy Scouts too. She was very active in the American Red Cross, serving as Nursing Services Chairperson for twenty years, a board member, and Blood Services Chairperson. Pat was active in the American Cancer Society for many years .
Pat was very active in the American Legion, serving as Post 376 Commander, Chenango County Commander, Sixth District Vice-Commander, and Chairperson of the Children and Youth Committee for many years. Pat was involved with Boys and Girls State and the Oratorical contests. She held several other positions in the American Legion on the state and national levels. Her commitment to veterans led her to actively promote the New York State Veterans’ Home through the years where she was a volunteer and served on its Board of Visitors.
Pat’s family would like to thank the administration, doctors, nurses, and staff at the NY State Veterans’ Home for the compassionate care provided to Pat in her final years.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on April 7, 2015 in St. Joseph’s RC Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford, NY on Monday, April 6, 2015 from 6-8 PM.
