THELMA E. RAY
SHERBURNE – Thelma E. Ray, 88, of Furman Mills Rd., passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at her home.
She was born December 13, 1926 in the Town of Brookfield, a daughter of Artemas and Irene Main McIntyre and was the valedictorian of her graduating class at Brookfield High School. On May 20, 1945, Thelma married Lindon H. Ray in Columbus Quarter. He predeceased her on May 23, 1996. Thelma had worked at Standard Brands in Sherburne, and then for Proctor & Gamble in Norwich for 15 years until retiring.
Thelma was an active member of the Columbus Community Church where she was a deacon and Past President of the Altar Guild. She was also a board member of the South Brookfield Cemetery Assoc. for 23 years.
Surviving are her children, Robert Ray of West Winfield; Timothy and Melinda Ray of North Norwich; and Penny Roberts of Hubbardsville; daughters-in-law, Lorri Ray and Judy Ray, both of Sherburne; a sister, Pauline Mayne of Burlington Flats; brother, Douglas McIntyre of Preston, CT; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a special friend, Susan Buckley. She was predeceased by two sons, Ronald and Thomas Ray; a daughter, Pamela Ray; her twin sister, Theresa Johnson; a brother, Lewis McIntyre; a daughter-in-law, Helen Ray; a son-in-law, Frank Roberts and a grandson, Ronald David Ray.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2015 at the Columbus Community Church, Rt. 80, Columbus.
Interment will be in the South Brookfield Cemetery in the spring.
Friends are invited to call at the Burgess & Tedesco Funeral Home, 10 S. Main St., Sherburne on Saturday from 6-9pm.
