EDWARD HADDON
NEW BERLIN – Edward J. Haddon, 83, of New Berlin, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2015, at his residence with family by his side.
Born April 9, 1931, in Brooklyn, NY, Ed was the son of Charles and Mary (Stefanski) Haddon. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1953.
Ed worked on the Long Island Railroad for 32 years as a train conductor. Upon retiring, he and his wife, Mary, moved to New Berlin in 1980. Mary predeceased Ed in 1993.
In 2001, Ed married Jean Rider-Calhoun, who survives. Also surviving are Ed’s sons, Edward, Jr., and his wife, Terri, of Selden, NY, George, and his wife Theresa, of Hookset, NH; daughter, Lucille Del’Olio, and her husband, Buddy, of Coram, NY; two step-daughters, Debbie Hannigan, of Daytona Beach, FL, and Charlotte Calhoun, of Juneau, AK; and step-son, Douglas Calhoun, of Cooperstown, NY. Ed also leaves nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a God-son Charles (Chick) Haddon, of Florida. He also leaves eight loving pets.
Ed was very fond of each of his foster children, especially Edward (Robbie), Nicole Phillips, Kevin Lennihan, Millie Bice and Patrick Sales.
In addition to his parents and his second wife, Ed was also predeceased by his first wife, Charlotte.
A private graveside service for Ed, with military honors, will be held at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY, where Deacon Joseph Zubrovich will officiate.
A memorial service for Ed will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin.
