ELIZABETH LOCKE
Elizabeth (Betty) Clarke O'Hara Locke, 96, passed away at St. Joseph Nursing Home, Utica, on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.
She was born in Utica on June 15, 1918, to the late Dr. Thomas Wood and Angela Clorinda (Tracy) Clarke. The youngest of three sisters, she resided in her grandmother's house at 7 Cottage Place. She graduated from Utica Country Day School, Kenwood Academy of the Sacred Heart in Albany and Manhattanville College, which at the time was located in upper Manhattan.
In 1938, she married Edward Hartigan O'Hara, and they resided in Norwich, NY, until his death in 1977. She was active in the Norwich Garden Club and the Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She later married Dr. James C. Locke, MD, and resided in Barneveld until his death in 2002. She then moved to the Sunset Woods Apartments in New Hartford until moving to St. Joseph's Nursing Home in Utica. She was a member of the Sadaquada Golf Club and the Fort Schuyler Club.
She is survived by her two sons, Frederic (Ted) O'Hara, Stuart, FL, and Robert S. O'Hara, New Orleans, LA; grandsons, Edward G. (Sarah) O'Hara, Ferrisburgh, VT, Sean P. (Deborah) O'Hara, Warren, VT, and Frazer O'Hara, New Orleans, LA; great-grandchildren, Megan (Jonathan) Spurrier, TX, Rebecca Domingue, Alexandria, VA, Elizabeth O'Hara, Ferrisburgh, VT, and Sullivan O'Hara and P. Finn O'Hara, VT; great-grandsons, Henry and West Spurrier; and great-great-granddaughter, Elliot Spurrier, TX. She is also survived by her two stepchildren, William F. Locke, New Hartford, and Peter S. and Karen Locke, Hopewell Junction, NY. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, "Toto" Clarke and Angela Clarke Wright; and a daughter, Kathleen O'Hara.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 9, from 10:00 to 10:30, prior to the Funeral Mass at 10:30, at Historic Old St. John's Church, 240 Bleecker St., Utica.
Arrangements are with the Dimbleby, Friedel, Williams & Edmunds Funeral Home, New Hartford.
