WILLIAM C. IZARD
SOUTH NEW BERLIN – William Clinton Izard (Bill), 73, a long time dairy farmer passed away peacefully at his home in South New Berlin, NY on February 7, 2015.
Bill was born on March 26, 1941 in the town of Smyrna, NY, a son of the late Richard C. Izard and Mildred L. Spurling Izard. Bill was brought up on various farms throughout his life. He worked in road construction and for Chenango County Soil and Water Conservation District building farm ponds in his earlier years, then settled down to operating his own dairy farm in South New Berlin, NY until he retired. Bill enjoyed farming the land along with various other farming activities such as tractor pulling contests. He helped start the Chenango County Fair Tractor Pulls and was a member of the New York Tractor Pullers Association. While farming Bill also worked several other jobs, including driving for Valley Supply and Hurl Cattle Trucking. He also drove school bus for South New Berlin Central School and more recently for Gilbertsville-Mt. Upton Central School. Full retirement was not in his vocabulary as he continued to assist his son with farming activities on a smaller scale. He was a member of the Chenango County Holstein Association. He was a former member of the South New Berlin Fire Department and the Mt. Upton Lions Club.
Bill is survived by his companion of 32 years, Mary C. Weidman ; his son, William Izard, of South New Berlin and four daughters, Charlene and Steven Button of South New Berlin, NY, Cynthia Izard of Norwich, NY, Connie Ryan of Greene, NY, and Barbara and Mark Schoonover of Norwich, NY; his grandchildren, Bradley and Amanda Bader, Jason and Lyndsey Ryan, Jennifer and Jeffrey Taylor, Justin Ryan, Stephanie and Brian Wallgren, Heidi Button, Cassandra Izard, Cierra Izard, Sheldon Bader, Brooke Maynard, Collin Izard, Bryant Maynard, Corrine Izard, and Brenon Maynard; his great grandchildren, Ella Taylor, Brody and Blake Wallgren; his brother Benjamin and Sandra Izard of South New Berlin and six sisters. Betty MacGeen of Pulaski, TN, Brenda Weidman of New Berlin, NY, Patricia Llewellyn of Sherburne, NY, Pamela Weidman/Howard Bowen of New Berlin, NY, Deborah and Husky Hyder of New Berlin, NY and Wanda Izard of Scottsville, NY. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Bill was also predeceased by his brother Lawrence E. Izard, his sister Sandra M. Burk and his brothers in law Eugene MacGeen, James F. Weidman and Herbert Llewellyn.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 13, 2015 in New Berlin at the Dakin Funeral Home at 2 p.m., followed by a celebration of Bill’s life at the South New Berlin Fire Station from 3-6 p.m. There will be a gathering in the spring on the farm at a time to be announced.
Memorial contributions may be made to the South New Berlin Fire Department or the Chenango County SPCA.
