Robert Hunt


NORWICH – Robert Hinman Hunt, 83, passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2009 after a short illness.
Robert was born in Norwich on Dec. 10, 1925, to Harry S. Hunt and Ruth Wait Hunt. He was graduated from the Manlius School in 1943. After serving two years in the United States Navy, Robert was graduated from the University Of Pennsylvania Wharton School Of Business in 1950. He married Dorothea Macrie of Philadelphia in 1952, and they settled in Norwich.
Robert was the marketing manager of Victory Markets before returning to college to pursue a Master’s Degree in marketing geography at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Robert began his teaching career at SUNY-DELHI in 1973 and continued there until his retirement in 1990.
In addition to his lifelong passion for learning and teaching, Robert enjoyed golfing, traveling, reading, chess, model boat-building, stamp collecting, opera, history, geography, and the company of family and friends, especially his brother Elks.
Robert is predeceased by his beloved wife, Dottie; his parents, Harry S. and Ruth W. Hunt; and his sister, Marjory S. Hunt. He is survived by his devoted children, Robert M, and Wendy S. Hunt; Cynthia H. and Frank Filetto; Constance H. Rhodes and Blinn Van Mater; and grandchildren, Anthony and Lia Filetto; and Sienna and Lena Hunt. In addition, Robert is survived by his dear friend, Irene Tietbohl.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caring staff at Bassett Healthcare, including nurses Amy Ford, Amber Johnson, and Donna Anderson. The “ professor” would like to express his gratitude and give an “A” for a great job to his doctor, Bruce Kramer.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta, 12 Ford Ave. in Oneonta.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Oneonta Elks Lodge 1312 Scholarship Fund, 86 Chestnut St. Oneonta, NY 13820 or the Little Delaware Youth Ensemble, PO Box 206, Oneonta, NY 13820.
