David F. Sykora


DAVID F. SYKORA
MASON, OHIO – David F. Sykora, 73 of Mason, OH, formerly of Oxford passed away on January 2, 2015 in Ohio. He was born on January 31, 1941 in Plymouth, NY a son of the late Clement and Anna (McGowan) Sykora. On April 26, 1968 in Oxford he married the former Shirley Pethick, who survives.
Besides his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his children, Marie and David McCartt, Karen Sykora, David and Kathy Sykora, and Brian Sykora; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; and his sisters, Barbara MacLaren, June Alton, Doris Sykora, and Ruthie Koerts and their families.
Dave was a graduate of Greene Central School and served in the US Marine Corp. He worked at The Raymond Corporation for 25 years. He was an active member for many years in Fort Hill Post #376, American Legion, as well as serving at County and Department levels, and the Oxford Fire Department, including driving for the Emergency Squad. He enjoyed doing puzzles and playing cards. He also knitted thousands of hats for a group in Utica, and recently for cancer patients in Cincinnati.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph s RC Church, State St., Oxford with Rev. Gerard Lupa celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Behe Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Oxford on Wednesday, January 7 from 5-8 p.m. Members of the Oxford Fire Department will conduct a memorial service at 6 p.m. and members of Fort Hill Post will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m.
Donations in his memory would be appreciated to the American Cancer Society for Lung Cancer Research or to either of his favorite service organizations the American Legion Fort Hill Post 376 or the Oxford Fire Department.
