ELEANOR JOHNSON ABILDNESS
ANNVILLE, PA – Eleanor Johnson Abildness, age 88, was called to Heaven after a long illness on Dec. 9, 2014 in Annville, PA. Elly is survived by children: James E. Abildness (Abby), Hummelstown, PA; Linda A. Thompson (W. Lawrence), West Sand Lake, NY; Jeffrey M. Abildness (Penney), Apalachin, NY; Susan A. Watts, Palmyra, PA. She leaves three brothers: C. Roy (Elsie), Stanley (Margie), & Kenneth Johnson – Guilford, NY; also 11 beloved grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, & 2 on the way.
Elly was born on Staten Island, NY, to Norwegian immigrant parents Carl and Julie (Tellefsen) Johnson. She graduated with honors from Port Richmond High, attended Wagner College, and worked in Manhattan before her May 1949 marriage to Edward H. Abildness, who pre-deceased her in 2006. They moved to upstate NY to raise their family in Norwich, NY. Elly was a great homemaker and a loving mother, wife, and friend. She and Ed lived their retirement years at Lake Monticello, VA, until he died. Elly was then moved to PA. Her deep faith in Christ was born out in a lifetime of service to others directly and through The Church. Her prayers sustained many.
A memorial service will be scheduled at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norwich, NY. The family thanks the staff at Country Meadows, Hershey, and Countryside Christian Community, Annville, for their tender loving care.
