MAX F. STEVENS
NORWICH – Max F. Stevens, 80, a life long Norwich area resident, passed away Thursday evening, December 4, 2014, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital.
Max was born on June 8, 1934 in Plymouth the son of Clifford D. and Elaine (Dunham) Stevens and was a 1952 graduate of the Otego High School. Following his graduation entered the United States Army serving his country from 1952 until his honorable discharge in 1954. While in the military he was stationed in Germany. Returning home, Max began operating the family farm which he operated for many years. Max had also served as Supervisor for the Town of Plymouth for many years as well as selling real estate for Peggy Parker Real Estate for 15 years. He was also a founding member of the Plymouth Historical Society of which he was still a member.
Max was all about his family. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren following their sporting activities, baby sitting for the great grandchildren and traveling around the area with them. A life long Yankee fan, he enjoyed watching their games and was also a fan of the NY Jets especially when they were in Cortland.
On January 19, 1957 he married the love of his life Lillian (Lonnie) Bates who passed away November 27, 2008. His devotion to Lonnie was shown even after her death by his daily visits to her grave for over 6 years.
Max is survived by his children Kelly Law and husband Kenneth, Patrick Stevens, his sister Barbara Shirdon all of Norwich, his grandchildren Riley Law of Sherburne, Challen Law of Rochester, Padraic Law and Mia Stevens both of Norwich and his great grandchildren Austin Ho, Arabella Ho and Marcus Blacksher. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A prayer service for Max will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. The Rev. Ralph A. Bove , Pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
