LeROY S. MATHEWSON
NORWICH – LeRoy S. Mathewson, 76, of Norwich, passed away Thursday morning, December 4, 2014, at his home.
Le Roy was born on June 11, 1938 in Plymouth the son of Hubert and Laura (Bliss) Mathewson. A resident of the area all of his life, LeRoy had attended the Sherburne schools graduating with the class of 1955. Following his education he went home to work and operate the family farm which he did until 1971. He then took employment with Ballie Lumber as a machine operator where he worked for 33 years until his retirement.
An avid bowler, LeRoy bowled in many of the Norwich leagues at Brown Ave. and Plaza Lanes. He also bowled in Earlville and had even sponsered his own team known as Roys Boys. Throughout his bowling years he had bowled one 300 game and two 299 games. He also enjoyed his motorcycles and camping.
On November 18, 1938 in Plymouth he married Loretta Youngs who survvies.
Besides his wife Loretta of Norwich, LeRoy is survived by his step children Nancy Pierce and husband James of Fort Meade, FL, Terry Bassett and wife Pamela of South Plymouth, his sister Eleanor Knapp and husband Robert of Sherburne, his brother Thomas I. Mathewson of Norwich, 6 grandchilden and 3 great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Graveside services for LeRoy will be held in the spring from the North Norwich Cemetery at a time to be announced. There will be no calling hours.
