JOAN K. STADELMAN
OXFORD – Joan K. Stadelman ”Joansie” 78, of Oxford , passed away at her home on Sunday Nov. 30th.
She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years William L. Stadelman; her son William J. Stadelman and her sister, Arlene Lloyd. She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Heavey (Edward); daughter- in -law, Madeline Stadelman; grandchildren, Britane Stadelman Clark (Kevin), William J. Stadelman II, Patrick Heavey and Erin Heavey all of Charleston SC; brothers, Jack Murray (Anna), Lee Murray (Veronica) and brother -in- law James Lloyd;cousins, Della Davis (Gerald) and Thaddeus Stanek, Kim Davis- Vanyo (Brian), Steven Davis (Justine), and numerous nieces and nephews. The family remains eternally grateful to her loving friend and longtime prayer partner Drew Burrichter whose Sunday evening phone chats to “talk about Jesus” were her most cherished moments and also her godson Chad Crandall for all of his loving care and many kindnesses. Joan was born to James and Mae Murray in Newark NJ and attended Benedictine Academy.
She grew up and shared a lifetime of love and friendship with her Holland Street neighbors and married one of “The Gang” William (aka Shorty). They moved to Union Beach, NJ where they raised their children and lived for 45 years.
She was an active member of the community, volunteering in numerous youth programs and school services. She served on the original fundraising committee for Bayshore Community Hospital as well as the Union Beach Library Restoration. As a member of Holy Family Catholic Church she co-founded the senior citizens Golden Age Group. She was later employed in womens health management and educational programs research. After selling their NJ home, Joan and Shorty followed their children to SC, spending winters in the south and summers at their vacation home in the mountains of upstate New York.
While in SC they cherished spending time with their grandchildren and joined St. Benedict parish. Joansie became an enthusiastic member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and developed special friendships with (then) Pastor- Father Paul and other parish members. Following the deaths of her husband and son she moved back to her NY home, finding comfort in waking to the peace and beauty of the woods where their ashes lay. She will be forever remembered and mourned by her family and many friends for her endless love and support, her wisdom, guidance and compassion and her infectious laughter and wit. A funeral mass will be offered at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Oxford, on Friday Dec. 5, 2014 at 11 a.m.
Memorial services in New Jersey and South Carolina will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
